Old Town of Altea
Altea’s first parish may be seen in the town’s central plaza, adding to the historic allure of the area. Santa Ana and the Santsimo Cristo de la Salud are honored on their respective feast days, and the church is named in their honor.
An octagonal dome sits atop the basilica’s central nave and side chapels. It has a plain and dignified appearance. Altea la Vella’s downtown streets have a unique allure, and a stroll through them is calming.
Fontaine du Garroferet
Two water fountains, 400 meters to the north, are born in the Altea la Vella ravine, which runs along the western slopes of the town. Both the Font Gran and the Font del Garroferet are famous. The Font del Garroferet may be found near the mountain’s base, close to the main thoroughfare connecting Altea la Vella with the surrounding mountains.
The Santa Barbara Chapel
Consecrated in 1759, this town near the mouth of the Cascall River shows signs of contemporary habitation dating back to the 17th century. A belfry rises above the unremarkable exterior and features baroque-style moldings. The altar is at a right angle to the nave, with a sacristy and a side porch.
The chapels are an irreplaceable part of Altea’s history, surrounded by centuries-old customs that have been carefully preserved. As a bonus, Altea hosts a music series La Ruta de las Ermitas every year, beginning the Saturday before Easter and running through the following weekend.
